Evening Grosbeak is a flashy finch with bold black and gold feathers and a powerful beak used for crushing seeds. For decades it was a common and beloved winter feeder bird, but, unfortunately, their population has declined by 92% since 1970 – making Evening Grosbeak the most steeply declining landbird in continental North America.
In light of this staggering number we're tracking Evening Grosbeaks throughout North America using satellite and radio transmitters – cutting-edge technology that sits on a bird’s back like a backpack.
1 Transmitter + 1 Evening Grosbeak = Pivotal Data to Help Save a Species
To date we have attached 200 transmitters to Evening Grosbeaks. This is a start, yet more work needs to be done to learn as much as we can to help this special bird.
How can you help?
Every Evening Grosbeak we tag and release will tell us about the routes taken by these mysterious and threatened birds, shedding light on what factors may be impacting their population decline. Your support is needed to continue this work.
